Come on! We don't have race issues in this country anymore!

"I want the president to look across the country and find the best man, woman, or minority that he can find." - Senator Trent Lott

2000

Today marked the day. 2000 U.S. Soldiers have passed in Iraq.

I remember when I got back from the first gulf war.

I visited my parents in Florida.

One night I sat on the beach by myself and had a couple of beers. I didn't think about if what I had been told to do was right or wrong. I just thought about my time spent there.

I drank more beer as the sun went down and I could see the lights of cars going across a bridge.

It hit me. These people aren't thinking about a war. They aren't thinking about the right or the wrong of the war. They aren't thinking about my friends still over there. Hell they weren't even thinking about the war at all.

They were thinking about where to go that night. What to eat. Who to see. How that outfit looks on them. If their wife will find out they cheated.

That is when the finality of war hit me.

We don't get mad at The President. How can we? We have things on our mind.

Albeit exaggerated????

You are fucking kidding me right? If you voted for this guy. You get what you deserve.

He fucked the rest of us and told us he didn't care about us.

You didn't care though. He was your buddy. He stood up for you. A man of conviction.

In the end he fucked you also.

1987 Chevy Beretta in perfect working condition!

I have been driving a station vehicle for the last couple of months. It is a P.T cruiser and is perhaps not the coolest car around. I have never been one for cool cars. I have never bought a brand new car. I just don't worry about it much. I got the car for free so what the hell...why not drive it.

Well, the last couple of weeks it has been giving me problems. Something in the electrical. Turn the turn signal on and the fog lights go on. I'm not complaining. I got it for free. One slight problem. The battery continues to die. So I decided to start to drive the car I have had forever.

A 1987 Chevy Beretta in perfect working condition. I have done everything in this car. It has been impounded more times than most people go to jail. More times than bad people go to jail. It has been puked in, pissed in , passed out in and thats just one night. It has gone with me across the country and lived in places like Detroit, Key West, Toledo, Charelston , Tampa , Jacksonville , Ft. Myers and lovely Kansas City.

I needed to start driving it anyway. I was begining to feel like I had been neglecting it. Tonight on my way home I stopped to get gas. I decided to pop the trunk to see what was in it.

A dead hooker? Nope.

A pair of pants, shoes, a shirt and some basic essentials. (C.D.'s, empty beer can etc...)

See I used to put clothes in my trunk. I did it when I was younger and kind of kept it up as a tradition. You never know when you will have to leave was the thought. Get caught cheating on your live in girlfriend? Helps if you have some clothes and a tooth brush with you when you come home to that debacle.

Put in jail for a couple of weeks. Well when you get out you will have lost your job. Lost your girlfriend but you will still have a pair of shoes and neatly pressed polo sweatshirt to throw on.

It just makes sense to keep these items in your car.

I looked at the trunk and chuckled.

See, I'm not leaving the person I'm with. I like where i live. My chances of going to jail for an extended stay are pretty slim.

I didn't take the items out of the trunk. You never know when you will have to leave.

I still belive that.

I just need someone else to put some shoes , pants , shirts and a tooth brush in the trunk.

Things I'm Doing!

Seems like fall is here. It always makes me want to live vicariously through somebody else. The cool weather leads one to want to be a little reckless. I think fall is relaxed desperation. We know the shit is coming but it feels o.k. right now. Hell we know it is coming but it feels great all around us. We just enjoy the ride to hell. Every couple of years around this time I pick up Jack Kerouac's "On The Road". I doubt half the shit in the story is true. I really hope it is though.

I have been checking out a ton of new music lately. Some pretty impressive records are out there. Youth Group has a Death Cab meets Shout Out Louds cool vibe to it. The new Nada Surf is nothing short of brilliant and The Foo Fighters record is as infectious as any record that I have heard in the last 5 years. You get the acoustic disc when you buy it. No need to listen to it. The plugged in version is worth the price. "It shame we have to die my dear. No one's getting out of here alive." Now you will sing it in your head all day. You are welcome.

I watched the Bob Dylan special the other day on P.B.S. I'm not a huge fan but the movie is worth watching. He certainly was the voice of a movement. I'm not sure he realized it. I'm not sure anyone recognized it. We realized it after the movement was over. Made me wonder if there is a voice to this movement. Made me wonder if we have a movement.
